Reflection

By Susan Lovelace

Your home should reflect your personality and the way you choose to live your life.  If your home is pleasing to you, it enriches your spirit. It will support, strengthen, stimulate, and calm you. All the things necessary to get you through the day stem from the feeling you get from your home. Here are some examples of how furnishings, textiles, and color, can impact your surroundings.

This is a great mix of function with a bit of drama. It only requires a small space and provides an intimate spot to entertain and socialize with friends. This is an example of making a statement with smaller spaces.

This is an example of a transitional design using the element of color to give it a modern feel. It’s sophisticated, not overly dramatic, and offers a comfortable functional seating space. Balance and harmony are strong principles used in this space. I could see this room working for a family with older children who love to collect (Objects de Arte’) and entertain in their homes.

This is a great combination of edgy stlye and sophistication. It is stylish but yet comfortable and livable. I could envision this for a décor fashionista’s family. The stylized Louis XVI white chair and texile patterns, make it light-hearted and inviting.

This room depicts an updated transitional style. The details and colors give it a fresh and interesting look. The Toile reminds me of our historical search for adornment in our homes. The use of yellow leather on a traditional wing chair creates contrast and adds excitement. For a more elegant setting, this room is perfect.

Honestly, this is my favorite example of today’s juxtaposition of color, style, texture, and pattern. It’s so very hip and modern but intensely traditional elements are incorporated in a new and modern way. Who wouldn’t want to be there and enjoy this space? I just think it’s so cozy and stylish!
