#7: GRAPHIC PRINTS & PATTERNS! A very big trend within the textile industry in fashion and interiors is digital prints on fabric and wall covering. Drab, dull and overly neutral rooms are getting their energy shot in the arm with bold graphic patterns and prints in 2013. From accessory pillows to wallcover, draperies to throw blankets, it’s the design that’s the design! Not all have to be in neon bright colors either as there are plenty of metallic or tone on tone options available as well. Layering the prints can be tricky but for instance, bold patterned pillows on a classic line, tailored neutral sofa can define the personality of the entire room!

#6: BRASS! For all of you who are just getting around to finally changing out all of your cabinet pulls, door hardware and hinges to brushed nickel, you may want to rea…d this memo….and don’t shoot the messenger! Yes indeed Brass is making a BIG resurgence this year. From Brass furniture, picture frames, accessories, lighting and fixtures, the warm hue of gold is back in fresh ways. When we all lived in the “beige box”, we used warm paint tones and accented in cool metallics…SO…over the past few years the “NEW beige” has been gray, and so it stands to reason (and trending) that as we’ve moved to cooler paint tones, the trend is to balance this with the richer, warmer tone of Brass metallics! With so many designers looking to the ’70s & 80’s as inspiration fit’s inevitable that brass and bronze will show up more—from accessories by Carl Aubock to cocktail tables by Gabriella Crespi to virtually entire rooms by Kelly Wearstler, brass is the metal of the moment.

#5: TEXTURED WALL PANELS!  These types of wall panels have been most commonly seen in commercial environments like hotel lobbies, nightclubs and day spas but 2013 shows… a big trend toward accenting these in the home! These textured wall panels are made from an entirely green (recycled natural) material, can be painted any color you want and some even have acoustical value (ie. MEDIA ROOMS, HOME THEATERS)! I’m not recommending you cover your walls with this look, but I do think it has high impact for focal walls of importance, such as in the entry hall, powder/guest bath room, fireplace wall, Master Bed Wall. For smaller applications I think this will be on trend for backsplashes, Closet walls (Ie. Closet Doors, camouflaging the doors in a seamless application with the wall), or even as a tub surround in the master bath! Left white and grazed with colored lighting, you can change your walls with the color of your mood! Your eyes do not deceive you in that last photo, there is recessed lighting INSIDE the wall to help accent the texture and make a WOW statement!

A Watercolor House Design

Lovelace Interiors

Many people do not realize that Interior Design is more than just furniture, fabrics and accessories!  We take great pride and joy in being able to help people throughout the entire building/remodeling process.  Being able to see a project through from conception to photographs is truly exciting, motivating and rewarding!  It usually produces the most detailed final results, like in this custom-built house in Watercolor.  Lead Designer, Cara McBroom, worked tirelessly with the owners, the builder, the architect and other designers to create a final result that all parties involved are bursting with pride over.

Cara is proud to have had a hand in all aspects of the design on some level.  She provided all color consultations, designed all bathroom vanity elevations, a custom media wall, a 3-story custom light fixture, and not to mention all the finish specifications and lighting.

The result? Clean. Quiet. Serene. Sophisticated. A house that would be beautiful, even if it had no furniture at all.

Having a strong design concept is vital in a large scale project like this one, and is one of the reasons hiring a designer early on is so important.  It can save much time, money and headaches by preventing the project from straying away from the initial core vision.

Let us help you achieve your vision of your home, and we will go above and beyond to make the final result better than you ever dreamed!
