Bunk Rooms

Lovelace Interiors

by Chelsea Musselman

Bunk rooms have always offered a great opportunity for a fun design in a home. However, bunk rooms no longer consist of free-standing bunk beds. Custom built in bunks have swept the nation! Take this set of twin over full bunks designed by my fellow Lovelace Interiors designers Cara Richardson McBroom and Joey LaSalle. These stunning beds have taken Houzz, Pinterest, and more by storm. And who can blame them…they are fabulous!

Below are some other wonderful examples of great custom bunks.

No matter the location of your project, a bunk room can be such a great design feature of a home. And so much fun to design also!

A Colorful Spring for 2014

Lovelace Interiors

By Bunny Hall

I am so excited with bright colors returning, everything from Radiant Orchid (the color of the year) and pretty in pink, to true fresh green.

The blue crush is coming on strong, with many shades in a soothing palette of blue & white. The comeback of this blue & white combination appears in several different ways: ginger jars, woven fabrics, and fine china.

The color wheel this spring is your own: brights from hot teals, to royal purples, to majestic reds and sunshine yellows. So turn your wheel to your favorite color and add some drama to your home or one special room.

Color Counts

Lovelace Interiors

By Helene Forester & Chelsea Musselman

Changing the colors of your space is one of the easiest ways to transform your space. Back in September, Country Living magazine had an issue dedicated to “Amazing Makeovers” and “How to change any room – fast!” They took one room setting and changed out a few key elements in different colors to create four pictures that look as if they could be in four completely different homes. In every setting the magazine changed the color of the chairs, the wall color, throw pillows, and the accessories on the table.

The first is the Coastal look with turquoise and green as the accent colors.  This setting has a very rustic and beachy vibe with the light turquoise and green accents. Also, by leaving the walls white, it allows for the room to be light, bright and open.

The second is a much more romantic setting. By using various shades of grey and pink, this room automatically feels warm and more intimate. The dark grey on the walls is another way to make the space feel cozy.

The next room is bright and sunny. Yellow is known to make people feel warm and happy. Well this room is a perfect example of that. Keeping everything else in the room white and grey lets that sunshine yellow take the forefront. It is a great way to get the warm sunny feel on even the dreariest of days.

Last is an example of a complementary color scheme. Complementary colors mean that the colors are opposite of each other on the color wheel. This room setting uses Blue and Coral, a pinkish shade of orange. The reason for using this kind of color scheme is that when these colors are placed next to each other they create a wonderful contrast against each other in a space.

As you can see with these images, color is one of the quickest and easiest ways you can change the look and mood of a room. Just changing the paint on the walls can have a strong impact.  Think about what a room would look about if you painted white walls dark grey…big change. What once was bright and airy is now dark and intimate. Another way you can change the look of your home fast is by keeping your large, main pieces of furniture neutral, so that you can easily change your colors with pillows, accessories, and accent furniture.

A Diamond in the Rough

Lovelace Interiors

By Julie Liebetreu

As a designer, over the years I have had the good fortune to see hundreds of homes.  A year ago, I had a client take me to see a home they had just purchased on the bay.  They were very excited about the home.  The home was built in 1994 and had a good floor plan but I have to admit, this home was one of the worst decorated homes I had ever seen, even for a home that age.  The worst was a 2” burgundy ceramic tile countertops, with soffits and fluorescent lights.  All the finishes were terrible.  The home actually had a “dog bathing room!”  Which had a raised old acrylic tub in the corner.  At the time, I didn’t appreciate that room as it would be key to the redesign of the home.

As we began changing the flooring, my husband, who is not a designer came by to see the work.  He mentioned to me that if it was his, he would take out the main wall between the living room and the kitchen.  I could hardly sleep that night thinking about the possibilities.  We would lose the main wall that the refrigerator and stove were on, plus the cabinets.  I started drawing possible layouts and realized we could use the awful “dog bathing room” as the new laundry and the old laundry to become the new Butler Pantry, giving the homeowner the lost storage.  I had an architect look at the wall to make sure it could come down.  Now to tell the homeowners of my plan!

Now the fun begins, finish selections.  The owners wanted a coastal vacation home.  A home where they could relax and enjoy their children and grandchildren.  My job was to create a space that was functional and beautiful, enhancing the wonderful views of the Choctawhatchee Bay. One of the challenges of the space was the 1990’s style fireplace and low square box for the television.  And of course the 90’s signature Palladian huge window overlooking the neighbors porch.

A fairly new product on the market is an electric horizontal vent less fireplace that could be put anywhere and takes up less than 6” of dept.  This would give the owners more floor space and yes, the big window needed to GO!

After months of planning and work, this project turned into a much bigger project than ever anticipated.  The outcome was worth all the time and energy put into it.  You would never know it was the same home. In searching for the right home, I give kudos it to my clients for seeing beyond the burgundy tile countertops, the dog bathing room and the carpet in the bathrooms.  This home is truly a work of love for our area and creating memories for their family for many years to come.

Lovelace Interiors

by Lindsay Miller

The biggest impact you can make in a bedroom is by creating an accent wall. Instead of doing art over your bed, think about selecting a cool wallpaper that will serve that same purpose.  The content of the wallpaper will set the tone for the whole room. These days, there are such unique options that add impact to even the smallest space. Below you will see papers that exude glamour, elegance, femininity, an asian influence, and even a graphic and contemporary feel.
